Fleet of supercars comes to Dorchester

Around 20 sports cars were on display at Cornhill, Dorchester, on Saturday while drivers waited for the start of a rally which took them from the county town, through Weymouth, West Bay and Lyme Regis, into Devon, towards Torquay and through Dartmoor, eventually finishing in Exeter.

Crowds were flocking to catch a glimpse of the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches which were lined up on Dorchester High Street, outside Costa.

Phil Gordon, project manager for Dorchester BID, was thrilled to see the cars in the centre of town and welcomes any events that bring people in and help boost the local economy, after a challenging 16 months during the pandemic.

Phil said: "With the 16 months that we have all been through, anything which adds a little extra dimension and interest to the Dorchester high street is to be applauded and the BID is supportive of any events that take place in the town and draw some crowds.

"The amount of interest in the supercars was really high and there were lots of families and kids out drooling over the cars.

"It has been great to see some lovely cars - there truly was some fabulous hardware on show. We were treated to around 20 cars, including some Ferraris, McLarens and Lamborghinis, which went down such a treat with crowds."

The event was organised by Luxe Rally, which held a trial event in Dorchester on May 15 that was well received by members of the public.

Organisers were keen to get drivers involved in the latest event, named Luxe Rally UK Black Tie Devon Drive, which ended with a black tie event after a day of driving along the south coast.

A spokesman for Luxe Rally said: "Weaving through the phenomenal coastal roads, we will turn heads as we drive through the sea towns along the coast, whilst the car spotters in each town catch us as we come through.

"The final roads of this rally are absolutely incredible, proving you really can save the best until last. We will drive through Dartmoor's most fantastic roads, seeing for miles ahead, soaking in the glorious fresh air."
