ROUGHLY 30,000 people descended on Lulworth Castle over the weekend as Camp Bestival returned after a two year hiatus.

Crowds travelled down in their thousands to enjoy Dorset's family-friendly festival, which was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Headline acts including Fatboy Slim, Blossoms and Groove Armada kept crowds on their feet, along with parody pop group Björn Again, who came in as a last minute replacement for 'Murder on the Dancefloor' singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor who had to self-isolate when two of her children caught coronavirus.

'Remember' singer Becky Hill made her first ever festival headline appearance and posted on social media the next day thanking organisers for giving her the opportunity.

She said: "I didn’t think I’d be able to stand on stage in front of thousands of people and perform the way I did last night.

"My headline festival show - my first ever. This is more than just a festival, more than just music, this is my life and I'm in awe just reliving last night. Thank you for having me headline your Friday night Camp Bestival."

Hundreds of festival-goers took to social media to share their experiences of the weekend and to post photos of huge crowds gathered together enjoying the music - something that many feared would not be possible amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Allan Jones has been going to Camp Bestival for more than 10 years and hugely enjoyed the festival atmosphere. He said: "As the sun rose over the site on the second day and people started to stir, it promised to be another glorious day at Camp Bestival.

"The line-up, fancy dress and general atmosphere promised a day of building excitement leading up to main stage headliner Fatboy Slim in the evening, who's set rounded off with Rob Da Bank leading a chorus of Happy Birthday and a giant birthday cake projected onto the face of Lulworth Castle."
