I have written to Chickerell Town Council asking them to consider making several areas of Chickerell designated 20mph zones.

This is light of not just the tragic incident where a poor cat was hit by a car with such force that the poor thing is unidentifiable because of the damage caused so therefore unable to be claimed by a grieving family, but also because with so much new development in the area.

There are more cars parked on pavements not to mention small children running to the ice cream van and more pets around but also because with the housing developments there are many offset junctions where you have to stop completely and creep forward, watch all ways just to make sure that you can actually see what may be coming across your path.

Once Courage Way is completely opened up it will become a rat run between Dorchester Road, Nottington, Coldharbour and the B3157 to Portesham and beyond.

I urge others to follow my lead and write to the council to make the following areas designated 20mph zones: Whynot Way Estate, Drake Avenue, Rex Lane, The Bindells, Putton Lane heading to and including Oldridge Road Estate, Pugmill Lane, Courage Way, East Street, Lower Way.

These areas have a high volume of young families within them so to keep them and their pets safe please write to the local council and make the areas safe.
