FIREFIGHTERS are currently dealing with a barn fire after 100 tonnes of hay have gone up in smoke near a Dorset village.

Three fire crews are dealing with the blaze at a barn near Colehill Road, Lytchett Matravers.

The fire is causing a lot of smoke in the area, according to on-the-scene firefighters.

A spokeswoman from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Rescue Service said: "We were called to a barn near Colehill Road, Lytchett Matravers at 1.55pm today where around 100 tonnes of baled hay are involved in fire.

"We have three fire engines (Poole x2 and Hamworthy), two water carriers (Poole and Ringwood) and the Unimog from Wareham in attendance.

"Please keep doors and windows closed if you're local and concerned."

The Unimog is an off-road truck, which can hold a large amount of water and is used for fighting forest fires in hard to reach areas.

The incident is ongoing.
