A PERSON reportedly caught with a knife following a search has been arrested amid a major police operation at Weymouth train station.
Police officers responded to a report at 3.31pm yesterday (Monday, August 2) that a group of teenagers were seen on Wyke Road, with one person alleged to have a knife.
Officers carried out investigations into the report and found the same group were outside Weymouth train station.
Dorset Police say a male was detained and searched by police, in which a knife was reportedly found.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, while other members of the group were told to leave the area.
The reported incident has seen a heavy police presence outside Weymouth train station, with at least four police vehicles at the scene as well as a number of police officers.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said that there were no reports of any injuries or any threats made to members of the public at this time.
A statement reads: "We received a report at 3.31pm on Monday, August 2 of a group of teenagers, one of whom was reported to be in possession of a knife, in Wyke Road in Weymouth.
"Following enquiries, it was reported that the same group were in the area of Weymouth train station.
"A male was detained for a search and a knife was reportedly located. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
"A number of other members of the group were spoken to and given dispersal notices requiring them to leave the area. Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.
"There are no reports of any injuries or any threats made to members of the public at this time."
Weymouth and Portland Police added on Facebook that two knives were seized, despite an earlier police statement.
A spokesman said: "A young male has just been stopped and searched in the King Street area of Weymouth following information which was received from a member of public.
"Concerns were raised that a young male matching the male's description was in possession of a knife.
"Two knives were located in the search of the male. He has been arrested and is en route to custody.
"A Section 35 Dispersal Order is in place covering the area of Weymouth. A number of people have already been issued with dispersal notices.
"Officers remain on foot patrol in the town."
