THE first in a series of firework displays took place last night.

Displays will be held every Monday in August, and last night people came out to Weymouth Beach after sunset to get a good view of the fireworks which were ignited from a vessel in the bay.

The displays, which can be viewed from the seafront and beach, usually attract thousands of visitors and begin at 9.30pm.

Here are some pictures of last night's beautiful display:

Two of the upcoming displays - on August 16 and August 23 - will be lower noise displays where the fireworks will not make the same 'bang' sound that they are associated with for the benefit of those who are sensitive to loud noises.
