BRAD Ash can offer more than ex-Weymouth loanee striker Andy Dallas, assistant Louis Langdown believes.

Langdown’s comment came after the Terras beat Dorchester Town 5-2 in their penultimate pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Ash got his name on the scoresheet, taking his tally to six goals this summer, missed a good headed chance and also smacked the post as his promising form continued.

Weymouth will look to new strike signings Ash, Brandon Goodship and Tom Bearwish to help fill the void left by Dallas, who notched 12 goals in 25 games.

However, Langdown feels Ash has more to some areas of his game than Dallas, now back with Cambridge United, presented last season.

Langdown told Echosport: “The gaffer (Brian Stock) was adamant from day one of seeing him on Wyscout that he was going to cause problems to any defender.

“His movement’s excellent, he doesn’t give you a minute’s peace and for us, we need that. We had it with Andy Dallas last year.

“No disrespect to Andy but I think Brad actually gives you a little more than just work rate.

“You could see in the first half when he took it round the keeper, right on the byline he’s just floated it across and hit the top of the (net).

“Then you’ve seen in the second half that little deft touch to take it over the line when the keeper’s advancing. He is going to cause problems.

“For Brad, he’s just got to keep working hard.

“We’ve got to recognise his forward run a bit better. I thought we did in the first half. We asked Tyler (Cordner) and Ben (Morgan) to play that little bit more direct.

“It’s not a long ball, it’s actually a very difficult, skilful ball to play. The timing of the run’s got to be there and we had it and he almost scored from that movement.

“But we can’t do that without first moving Dorchester around and changing the shape of their compactness, so I’m pleased for Brad.

“I think the gaffer’s found a really good player for us.”
