A STUNNING fireworks spectacle lit up the skies above Weymouth Beach on Monday night.

Weymouth resident Andy Webb captured these striking images of the town council's new lower-noise display.

Guests attended Weymouth Beach to watch as the fireworks were ignited from a vessel in the bay on Monday night.

The displays are provided by Pains and by Sirotechnics with additional operational support from Masterplan Offshore, Dorset Council (Weymouth Harbour Office), and Weymouth Town Council’s Beach Office.

The town council has been encouraging the public to, where possible, leave their cars at home and walk or use public transport when getting to and from the displays.

The display promised to be somewhat different from the two previous weeks, without the typical 'bang' sound that they are usually associated with.

Instead, Weymouth Town Council has organised a lower noise display for the benefit of people who do not like loud noises, as well as pets who may be frightened by ordinary fireworks.

The council is now seeking feedback from residents about the display via an online survey.

Next week's display will also be lower noise before the final display of the summer on August 30 which will have classic noisier fireworks.

Families were also able to enjoy Danter's funfair at the Pavilion forecourt, and funfair rides on the seafront near the Jubilee Clock.

The fair usually sets up near the Clock to coincide with Weymouth Carnival week. The carnival is not being held this year but Edward Danter said he wanted to go ahead with the fair as it's a popular summer attraction.
