AN iconic red telephone box has gone on the market in a town centre.

The bright red telephone box is on the market at a starting price of £15,000 and is being sold through auction by BIDX1.

The striking phone box takes pride of place in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth outside the old Beales department store.

Although Historic England have listed to preserve these iconic kiosks, many have been transformed into coffee shops, libraries, museums, bakeries, and defibrillators.

With mains electricity this kiosk is ready to trade and there is no service charge or ground rent to pay.

It is a 'K6' phone box, which is one of the most historically iconic. This type of phone box is also known as a 'Jubilee' kiosk and they were introduced to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V in 1935.

The K6 was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott - around 60,000 examples were installed across Britain, which is why the K6 has become the most iconic phone box in the country.

More than 11,000 K6s remain and they are the most visible examples of the eight kiosk types.

The K6 kiosk is constructed of cast-iron sections, bolted together, standing on a concrete base it is 8'3" high and three feet square.

It is being sold through online auction on December 31, through BidX1 Commercial, London.
