A STREET event will be held this weekend on Portland to raise cash for Dorset Women's Refuge.

The Wakeham Portland Charity Bric-à-Brac event will be held this Saturday - on the pavement along Wakeham, from the Moorfield Road junction to the Church Ope Road junction.

The event will see live music performances and will give organisers an opportunity to raise cash for the Dorset Women's Refuge, which supports women fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

A spokesman for the event said: "The Wakeham Portland Charity Bric-à-Brac event is coming this Saturday, August 28.

"Organised by Wakeham Wimin, a women's group on Portland, it is in support of a vital yet necessarily low profile charity Dorset Women’s Refuge.

"The event is held along the length of Wakeham outside people's houses offering bric-a-brac, tombola, raffle, crafts, clothing, refreshments, paintings, books, and live music.

"Portland Museum and St John’s will be joining us too.

"Stalls will be along the pavements of Wakeham, which is a wide street - so there will be no need to close the road.

"It will be a brilliantly friendly community affair."

The event will start at 11am.
