SHERBORNE TOWN RES 1

DORCHESTER SPORTS 1

DORCHESTER Sports dropped their first points of the Jewson Dorset Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sherborne Town Reserves.

Coming into the game, Sports had won their previous three games but found the Zebras to be a tougher proposition.

After Jamie Symes and Gareth Will spurned a double chance in the third minute, Sherborne took the lead when Shaun Bessant diverted a dangerous cross into his own net.

Sherborne finished the half on top but Sports preserved parity and crucially levelled six minutes after the break.

Jack Steele’s brilliant through ball set Nick Voss free to score his fifth goal in four games, nutmegging the Zebras’ keeper.

Sports dominated thereafter as Alex Gould headed wide before Symes also fired off target.

Sherborne and Voss squandered good late chances to win it as the sides settled for a point.

Sports’ boss Ashley James said: “On chances it’s probably a fair result.

“We didn’t turn up for the first half an hour and we’ve only got ourselves to blame.

“After, we were the better side. We got our acts together and dominated but just couldn’t find the winner.”

Sports have just one injury doubt ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Westland Sports (3pm), with Will nursing a groin strain. Darren Watts, Jamie Quinton and Billy Brumble return.

On Westland, James added: “I don’t think Westland have conceded a goal yet.

“When you go to their place you don’t expect a high-scoring game, it’s always tight.

“We beat them in the cup back in May so we’ll be looking to do the same again.”
