A ‘stunning’ historic home built by a sea captain with its own swimming pool is set to go under the hammer for more than £1M this month.
Moorings, based in North Leigh Lane, Wimborne, has been put up for auction with a guide price of £1,650,000 by auctioneers Symonds and Sampson.
The brochure notes the ‘stunning’ property built was in 1904 by a sea captain and extends to about 5414 sqft (503sqm).
The seven to eight bedroom property has been in the same family since 1985 and contains numerous period features including ornate tiled and parquet flooring, archways, open fireplaces, some interesting stained-glass windows and a decorative timber staircase.

Accommodation is spread over three floors and the property has many large rooms, high ceilings and accommodation that buyers would expect from such a house.
The Moorings contains domestic offices - such as wine room, larder and office – along with servants rooms, large airing room and a pantry. There is even a snooker room with a full-size table on the second floor.
There is also a lift to the first floor, but this has not been serviced, auctioneers Symonds and Sampson say.
The property requires some modernisation and improvement but gives purchasers the rare chance to put their own ‘mark’ on this historic house.
Alongside the house, there is a three-bedroom cottage, the chauffeur's cottage, which is in need of modernisation.
The property is approached through double wrought iron gates to a large drive with available parking for many vehicles. There is also another separate entrance via a 5-bar gate.
Outside the property are some interesting features, namely the summer house and swimming pool in the garden.
There is also a large garage with an inspection pit and workshop.
There is a walled kitchen garden and the other areas are laid out with a croquet lawn flanked by mature shrubs and trees.
The property will be featured in an auction on Friday, September 24. More information can be found by calling 01202 843190 or through this link.
