DORCHESTER Town are on the verge of bringing new players to the Avenue Stadium, manager Robbie Herrera has revealed.

Performance-wise, Herrera’s Magpies have begun the new season brightly but often not achieved results they arguably deserved.

Just one victory – a 3-1 success at Hendon – has followed alongside four Southern League Premier South defeats and Saturday’s FA Cup exit to Yate Town.

Dorchester have played without a recognised striker, a position filled by winger Sam Bayston who has chipped in with three goals – adding to his five in pre-season.

Speaking to Echosport, Herrera said plans for one striker are being finalised this week, with another forward set to come in on loan.

He said: “Hopefully I’ll know more for one individual and then by (today) we should have another attacking individual in on loan from a Championship club.

“It needs shaking up, a little bit of a change and I’m hoping these lads will improve the team, which they’re in to do.”

Herrera has often highlighted the concession of goals through defensive mistakes this season.

Asked if the defence needs attention in training, he said: “Yeah, we do work on it and will continue to work on it.

“We’ve got one or two bodies to come back in which will strengthen (us). No disrespect to the players that have come in (on Saturday).

“They’ve had an opportunity and it hasn’t quite happened for whatever reason.

“I can’t ship three goals again and have those boys expect to keep their positions in the team.

“We’ve got to change things around and freshen things up with a couple of new faces that might just bring everybody up a little bit.”
