ONE of south Dorset's most popular tourist hotspots has been compared to a coastal region in a southern African country.
New research from UK holiday park operator Parkdean Resorts has discovered which popular UK beaches share the same sand tone as tropical beaches across the world.
The research reveals the sand tones of Durdle Door are similar to Walvis Bay in Namibia.
A spokesman from Parkdean Resorts said: "The golden sands of Walvis Bay Namibia are mimicked on the beach of Durdle Door.
"The icey white cliffs contrasting with the warm sand tone creates stunning views."
The research also revealed Bournemouth Beach's sand tone is a near identical match to the picturesque beach of Navagio, just off the coast of Zakynthos in Greece.
