WEYMOUTH WOMEN 6

SHAFTESBURY LADIES 0

WEYMOUTH Women got their Dorset Women’s League season off to the perfect start as they defeated Shaftesbury Ladies 6-0 at Wey Valley.

In their second season since forming last summer, the Terras also handed competitive debuts to Sophie Webber-Green, Kayleigh Whiting and Jasmine Wareham.

Weymouth made the breakthrough on eight minutes when Terras' captain Charlie Wilson fired a powerful left-footed drive from range into the bottom corner.

The lead was doubled in the 24th minute when Lily Beasley lashed her shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Two goals in as many minutes shortly before half-time meant the Terras went into the break leading 4-0.

Beasley made it a brace of goals when she finished a Webber-Green cross, then the latter turned from provider to goalscorer slotting a one-on-one to open her Weymouth account.

Just after the hour, the Terras made it five as Beth Barnard-Irons scored her first competitive goal for the Terras with a powerful drive from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Naomi Johnson wrapped things up in injury time when she finished a superb individual effort, beating the whole of the Shaftesbury defence before slotting from close range.
