DORCHESTER Town boss Robbie Herrera insisted the Magpies were “worthy of the three points” following a 2-0 win over Walton Casuals.

Herrera’s men finally cashed in with victory for only the second time in what has been a bright start to their Pitching In Southern League Premier South season.

While good performances have not always been matched by results, Dorchester were in no danger of repeating their recent habit.

Their strong first-half performance was capped by two debut goals for new striker Kieran Phillips – signed on a one-month loan from Bristol Rovers.

Phillips punished a defensive error within 60 seconds and grabbed his brace in the 35th as Dorchester earned a first home league win since beating Tiverton 1-0 last October.

Speaking to the Magpies’ official website, Herrera said: “It’s been a long time coming, we’ve played better and lost games.

“Full credit to the players, they deserved that. A clean sheet is a bonus.

“To score a couple of goals, Kieran is new to the club and gone and notched a couple – fantastic for him, a great way to start his Dorchester career.

“I thought on the whole we were worthy of the three points.”

On Phillips, Herrera added: “He gives us something a little bit different.

“He’s sharp in and around the box, he’s got a bit of pace. He’ll be able to stretch teams and allow us to get a bit of a passing game going.

“I’m pleased for him coming in but full credit to the rest of the players, they’ve worked hard, we’ve defended well and we were resolute.”

Dorchester showed a professional side to their game in the second half with game management.

Herrera said: “Over the past couple of games we’ve not managed it well when we’re conceding goals at 90-plus minutes.

“We said at half-time we don’t need to score a third goal.

“If we keep possession, they’ve got to do something different, come at us a little bit and we might be able to expose spaces when they do that.

“The game management was better. They’re starting to get a bit more nous about themselves. Hopefully they continue to do so.”
