A NEW activity programme has been launched as part of Weymouth Town Council’s Keep in Touch initiative which will offer interesting and inclusive activities for people who may be experiencing social isolation.

Activities will include weekly craft groups, coffee mornings, health walks, brunch as well as other social meet ups.

Keep in Touch was set up by Refresh during the first lockdown as a service for residents to contact if they needed some shopping, a prescription collecting or someone to chat to during those difficult times.

Refresh worked in partnership with Weymouth Town Council to include the essential food box scheme within the service.

During the second lockdown, Refresh expanded the Keep in Touch service to offer regular phone calls through a Chat2gether scheme and letter writing called Pen2paper scheme, which received extremely positive feedback and were referred to as a vital lifeline for many who were unable to see family or friends.

The new activity programme will be promoted on a monthly basis and include a calendar of activities with the aim to appeal to a range of different interests.

The activities will be held at various locations some indoor and some outdoor.

Most of the activities are free, though some will ask for a donation towards refreshments.

Project Manager of Keep in Touch, Rosie, says: “We are really happy to be able to offer this activity programme after what has been a very difficult year, with many people having to shield or isolate. The programme will give people the opportunity to meet up in a relaxed and safe way, make friends and perhaps learn a new skill or hobby!”

“We recognise that this can feel very daunting for many of us, so please contact me before-hand if you have any questions at all.”
