WEYMOUTH manager Brian Stock admitted he was “proud” of his players despite suffering a 4-2 loss at Vanarama National League leaders Dagenham & Redbridge.

Stock’s men took the lead through Josh Leslie-Smith and a Brad Ash penalty regained the initiative after Josh Walker’s equaliser.

But Weymouth’s lead was swamped in the second half by a Will Wright double – his second direct from a corner – and Paul McCallum’s low header.

Stock told Echosport: “The be all and end all is that our players, again, have given everything they have to try and win a game of football.

“That’s now two games in four days and I’m really proud of this bunch of players.

“There’s a really good vibe amongst the team and staff. We’ll bounce back from this.

“We’ve put in a good display. At 2-1, you think we could go on and take something from the game.

“All fairness to Dagenham. They kept on plugging away and forcing us to defend.

“They put us under pressure second half but even when we went behind at 3-2 our heads didn’t drop.

“There’s a lot of tired legs there and rightly so. The work ethic, particularly this year and our start to the season, has been excellent.”

With the Daggers’ third goal coming from a corner kick, Stock confessed keeper Ross Fitzsimons might have expected to collect the delivery.

“I think Ross will openly admit that he needs to save that,” Stock said. “But he’s also made a couple of great saves.

“We’ve lost as a team. We put in a fantastic performance against Notts County as a team and we’ll bounce back as a team.”
