A WANTED man was arrested on drink driving offences after he was stopped on his way to pick up a child having drunk half a litre of brandy.

A man who had failed to attend court at the beginning of the month in relation to three counts of drink driving and driving while disqualified was stopped by police in Christchurch on Monday morning.

The Dorset Police No Excuse team saw him driving erratically in a car with no insurance that was registered to someone else.

He was stopped and police found he was heavily intoxicated - he admitted to drinking half a litre of brandy that morning.

He was arrested and appeared at Poole Magistrates Court yesterday, where he was remanded in custody.

A spokesman for the Dorset Police No Excuse team said: "The male failed to attend court on September 1 in relation to three drink drives and driving whilst disqualified charges and was now wanted.

"We did our research and located a possible vehicle linked to the male, with no insurance and registered to someone else. Our excellent analysts on the team have access to a wide range of tools to assist us.

"On Monday morning we headed out to Walkford, Christchurch which was a previous location known to the male back in July. It didn’t take long to spot the vehicle swerving on Glenville Road, Christchurch.

"When stopped, the males first response was: "I think it’s over now". This was the third time the same officer had stopped him. The male was on his way to pick up a child.

"The male was heavily intoxicated again and admitted to consuming half a litre of brandy that morning. He practically fell out the car.

"He refused to provide a specimen of breath, so was arrested again for this and driving whilst disqualified and no insurance.

"At custody he refused to provide a sample and was charged with all offences. He was kept in overnight and on Tuesday morning he appeared at Poole Magistrates Court and is remanded in police custody until the October 5 so sentencing can take place. I would expect a lengthy prison sentence to follow.

"We will continue to follow up and do our best to remove those who pose a risk to our roads, over and over again. The male was a serious risk to our roads."
