THE details of a 40-home proposal for a site south of Newlands Manor House off Bournemouth Road at Charlton Marshall have been lodged with Dorset Council.
An outline application for the Stour Close site was approved in 2018 for Morrish Homes at Upton with the current application asking for approval for access, layout, appearance and landscaping details.

Papers submitted to the council say that 40per cent of the homes on the 2.5 hectare site will be ‘affordable’ and that over 30 per cent of the site will be designated as public open space, most of it on the Gravel Lane site of the site with a small ‘village green’ at the site entrance.
Eighteen of the homes will be 3-bed houses, eleven 2-bed and eleven 4-bed in a range of styles which the developers say is in keeping with the area.

A previous application for the site, for up to 55 homes, had attracted much local opposition – claiming the site was subject to flooding and that the village has no school or shops with Blandford medical surgeries already over-subscribed. Others argued that it would be an overdevelopment of the site threatening the character of the area.
That application was later given approval, in principle.
The full details of the latest application can be seen on the Dorset Council website, ref 2021/02870, with comments open until October 4th.
