A young man stuck on rocks was plucked to safety in a dramatic rescue.

Weymouth RNLI said the man was stuck on rocks below the cliffs to the west of Pulpit Rock at Portland Bill.

The town's all-weather lifeboat Ernest and Mabel, below, was launched to go to his aid at 12.30pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Weymouth RNLI said: "Solent Coastguard requested that Weymouth lifeboat launch to help a young man who was stuck on rocks below the cliffs to the west of Pulpit Rock at Portland Bill.

"On arrival the volunteer lifeboat crew launched the Y boat - a small rubber dingy that is carried on the lifeboat - to enable them to get in close to the rocks where the man was stuck. He was transferred onto the lifeboat and taken back to Weymouth Lifeboat Station where he was handed over to an ambulance crew."
