AN UNCONSCIOUS man was rescued after he was involved in a crash between two sailing boats during a national competition.

Wyke Coastguard was called to reports of a man who had fallen unconscious after he was involved in a crash between two sailing boats that were participating in the Noble Marine RS800 National Championship at Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) on September 9.

Coastguards rushed out to help the man, who had been in the water but been pulled back onto a boat by his crew. He was taken to shore and transferred to an ambulance.

A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard said: "The team were tasked at 2.49pm to reports of an unconscious male after he was involved in a collision between two sailing boats off Castle Cove Sailing club (CCSC)whilst taking part in the Noble Marine RS800 National Championship.

"Once on scene, the casualty, who had been in the water and recovered by his crewman, a serving coastguard, and the safety Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) to the jetty at CCSC.

"Team members liaised with paramedics and due to the condition of the casualty he was removed from the RHIB in a stretcher onto the pontoon. After some immediate care he was transferred to the awaiting ambulance."
