PORTLAND United boss Franklyn Clarke has demanded a “completely different approach” from the Blues against US Portsmouth tomorrow (3pm).

Portland host the RN looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat in Hampshire, during which the Blues dominated before conceding a 75th-minute goal.

Their form has tailed off in the Wessex League Premier Division, with four goals shipped in each of their past four games – including a League Cup clash with Romsey Town.

And Clarke revealed talks have been held with his squad to address the issue.

Asked what he wants to see from his players, he told Echosport: “Just a completely different approach.

“We trained very well on Tuesday and had an honest discussion about a couple of things.

“We’ll be ready to go and I’ve got no doubt the lads are going to bring it.

“It’s a collective. You can easily look at it and say Portland don’t defend very well, but that’s not the case. It’s one unit and we defend from the front.

“Keeping the ball in the final third for long spells will take a bit of pressure off the defence and midfield.

“It’s just little things like that. This requires patience from everyone because a lot of these lads are playing at this level for the first time.

“We were the better team at their place and should’ve won the game. I expect exactly the same so this time we take all three points.”

Marcus Smith (hip), Greg Borthwick (back) and Matty Burrows remain injured.
