NOT only is the area around the Queen Mother’s statue in Poundbury a confusing obstacle with no obvious direction, it is also a concrete jungle which contributes nothing to the environment and pays little respect to Her Majesty.

Knowing the Queen Mum’s love for flowers and gardening, it should not prove beyond the whit of the Poundbury planners (or their budget) to commission Alan Titchmarsh or Monty Don or both to surround the Queen Mum for example with a roundabout or a ‘squareabout’ of greenery, hardy perennials and roses (her favourite flower) to provide HM with a comfortable, attractive and safe setting that would certainly meet with her grandson’s approval.
