THE OWNERS of a popular tea room on Weymouth's seafront have made the ‘difficult decision’ to permanently close the venue's doors due to difficult trading conditions in the current climate.

Customers of Mary's Tea Room have spoken of their 'devastation' at the decision - as bosses thanked them for their loyal support.

Mary’s Tea Room, based on the Esplanade, is a vintage inspired café which served a wide range of creative cakes, cream teas and homemade snacks for customers.

The tea room, which hosted events and hen dos, was described by customers as ‘welcoming’ with its ‘friendly staff and lovely food’ and had a flower wall that was popular with diners and photographers.

The tea room has now announced that the business has closed, saying the ‘current climate has ‘taken its toll’ on business.

A spokesman for Mary’s Tea room said: “It is with a heavy heart we have made the difficult decision to close our doors at Mary’s for good.

“Unfortunately, due to the current climate all aspects of running a small business have taken its toll so we have decided to call it a day.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to all our customers for their patience over the past few months and of course our long standing members of staff.”

Following the news, dozens of customers wrote how they were ‘devastated’ to hear of the news and wished the owners 'all the best' for the future.

Many diners shared their own special memories of the tea room, including memorable family events or hen dos the venue hosted over the years.

One said: “It’s where I met my long lost Weymouth family for the first time so it holds a special place for me.”

Gemma Harris wrote: “I’ve shared some amazing times with people at Mary’s, and you made it a great place to visit.

“You will be greatly missed.”

Karen Clark said: “Thank you for bringing so much joy to those who visited. For being a part of so many special memories you’ve helped to create. I truly wish you and all your staff well in the future. You did Weymouth and yourselves proud.

A spokesman for the business has said it was ‘really lovely’ reading all of the comments from customers.
