A kayaker who capsized and was swept out to sea was rescued.

Weymouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was on exercise this morning when at 10.42am the crew they were requested by Solent Coastguard to go to the assistance of a person in the water some 100 metres from the shore at Ringstead Beach.

A RNLI spokesman said: "The casualty, a male kayaker who had capsized, was holding on to his kayak and being swept along the coast rather than drifting towards the shore.

"On scene at 10.47am the volunteer lifeboat crew recovered the man and kayak to Ringstead Beach where, with no medical treatment required, the inshore lifeboat left the casualty.

The lifeboat then returned to Weymouth lifeboat station at 11.41am where it was refuelled and made ready for the next shout.
