STAFF at Weymouth College have made the decision to not strike over pay after they accepted an offer from their employers.

Weymouth College was yesterday advised by the University and College Union (UCU) that, following a consultative ballot, Weymouth College members have voted not to pursue industrial action concerning pay on September 28 and October 6/7.

Teachers and support staff at the college voted earlier this year to take strike action if there was no increase to the proposed 2.2 per cent pay rise.

The University and College Union (UCU) has been campaigning for a 5 per cent increase in pay for college staff. The trade union said that employers had until September to meet its demands or they will face strike action.

UCU said strike action is now off at Weymouth College after staff accepted an offer from employers.

Staff at 10 other English colleges will still be walking out tomorrow in their fight for increased pay and UCU said that if colleges want to avoid further disruption they need to get around the negotiating table.
