A WOMAN caught driving without insurance has faced no penalty because her insurers mistakenly told her she was insured.

Patricia Anne Collins, aged 69, was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen panel van on the A351 Corfe Castle to Stoborough Road in Wareham on July 29, 2020.

Weymouth Magistrates’ Court heard how Collins was stopped by police and officers made enquiries about her vehicle.

Collins was found to be without insurance for the van, despite her insurers One Call Insurance informing her she was covered.

Collins, of Tabbits Hill Lane in Corfe Castle, pleaded guilty to the charge under the single justice procedure.

The court registers noted that there were ‘special reasons’ why Collins will not face any costs or driving licence endorsements as she was ‘misled by One Call Insurance company into believing she was insured.’

One Call Insurance has been approached for a comment but did not respond in time.
