NEARLY 400 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Dorset within the last 24-hour period, according to latest statistics.

Latest Government figures show 381 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Thursday, October 7.

The Dorset Council area reported 221 new cases, which has brought the total number of cases in the area up to 27, 646.

1,274 cases have been recorded in the latest rolling seven-day period for the Dorset Council area, with a case rate of 335.4 per 100,000 people.

170 new cases were recorded across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council area in the past 24 hours. The total number of cases for the area is now 46,416.

The rolling seven-day period for the BCP area is 888 cases, with a case rate of 223.7 per 100,000 people.

For the New Forest area there was a total of 71 new cases which brings the overall total up to 13,029.

The rolling seven-day total for the area is 549 cases, with a case rate of 305.6 per 100,000 people.

Across the whole of the UK there have been 40,701 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.

8,046,390 cases have been reported across the country since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
