FIREFIGHTERS rushed to reports of smoke coming from a building supply store.

Two fire engines from Bridport Fire Station and one fire engine from Beaminster Fire Station were called to Travis Perkins, on St Andrews Road, Bridport, at 5.55pm yesterday afternoon, after they received multiple calls of smoke coming from the building.

Upon arrival, the crews found that a security system had been triggered accidentally, causing a 'smoke cloak' to activate, filling the room with synthetic smoke to prevent any intruders from entering.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "Both Bridport appliances and Beaminster Fire Station were mobilised after multiple calls were received for smoke issuing from Travis Perkins.

"On the scene, the incident commander was met by a key holder to the property who explained a security system had accidentally triggered causing a smoke cloak to activate. These are designed to fill a building with high value items up with synthetic smoke to stop any intruders."
