THE sudden death of a man at a flat in Weymouth was met by shock yesterday.

As reported, a man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the sudden death of another man at a flat in Weymouth.

Ambulance crews attended an address in Portmore Gardens, based off Wyke Road, in response to a 999 call at 10.55am yesterday, Monday October 11.

Paramedics were unable to revive a man within the flats and he was pronounced dead. His family has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

Police officers were later called to Portmore Gardens and a man aged in his 20s from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed a manslaughter investigation is currently under way and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "At around 12.20pm on Monday, October 11, officers received a report from the ambulance service of the sudden death of a man at an address in Portmore Gardens in Weymouth.

"An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. His family has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

"A man aged in his 20s from Weymouth has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and is currently assisting detectives with their enquiries."

South Western Ambulance Service Trust confirmed in a brief statement that they responded to the medical incident, but were unable to give further details.

A spokesman briefly said: "We have attended an incident at a private address in the Rodwell area of Weymouth following a call at 10.55am."

A man, who did not wish to be named, said Portmore Gardens was ‘full of emergency services’ with up to eight police vehicles and an ambulance in the area.

He also spotted a forensic investigations van among the police vehicles.

Weymouth town councillor, Alex Fuhrmann, said: "I'm sad to hear the details around this particular incident. Our thoughts go out to the family and we support the police in their endeavours in this investigation.

"It is shocking to hear, and I'm a bit lost for words, any time someone loses their life it is a tragedy and I hope those affected by this death are okay."
