TWO Dorset Council employees have been named as finalists for prestigious awards.

The finalists for the Social Workers of the Year awards have been announced and feature two members of staff at Dorset Council who have been recognised for their 'inspirational achievements'.

Christine Norman is a finalist in the Newly Qualified Social Worker of the Year category, and Laura Lowe is a finalist in the Practice Educator of the Year category.

The awards aim to shine a light on the work that social workers carry out, and a total of 52 people and teams have been shortlisted across 11 categories.

Peter Hay CBE, chair of the awards, said: "As a charity, we are delighted to bring back the awards this year to shine a light on the inspirational achievements of an often overlooked profession."

The winners of each category will be revealed during a virtual awards ceremony broadcast live from London on November 17.
