WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS 23

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 48

LEADERS Belle Construction had too much in reserve for Warmer Home Improvements, winning 48-23 in the South & West Dorset Premier Division.

Both teams got off to a strong start with good defence from Warmer GD Lauren Banks, who kept Belle from scoring on multiple occasions.

Although Warmer came up with interceptions, they struggled to convert them. Belle’s play through the mid-court was strong and they secured a good, early lead.

After a team change from Warmer, they managed to improve their attacking play while GS Sam Rees shot well. However, Belle continued to dominate with strong through court passes and high accuracy from shooters Olivia Conning and Jaimee Browne.

The fast pace of the game continued in the third quarter with both teams moving swiftly across court. Belle WA Mandy Langton made some sharp passes into the circle, allowing Belle to extend their lead further.

The final quarter was more evenly matched, as Warmer battled for every ball and used stronger passes into their shooters, but Belle's performance was too strong.

CORFE CRUSADERS 50

TEAM WAIKIKI 18

CORFE Crusaders got off to a flying start in their 50-18 Division One win over Team Waikiki, taking the lead quickly.

There was some great shooting from Corfe GS Laura Gardener. Towards the end of quarter Waikiki did catch up to Corfe’s intensity, however Corfe had already established a good lead by then.

Waikiki defenders Lauren Dabbs and Jo Baldwin started stronger in the second quarter, as they were challenging and fighting for every ball. Corfe, however, continued to shoot accurately to maintain their lead.

Despite Waikiki’s increased intensity, Corfe continued to stretch their lead in the second half, with their shooters rewarding the defence’s good work up until the final whistle.

ZEST 6

SANDSFOOT SIRENS 15

SANDSFOOT Sirens shook off a tough start to the Division Two season by beating Zest 15-6.

Sirens, who have several new players this season, started the stronger. Their GA, Lexi Davis, produced some good interceptions and the team were dominant in the first quarter.

Zest then settled into the intensity of the match and began the second quarter well. Their defence was much tougher for the Sandsfoot attack to get through, meaning this quarter was much closer.

Zest then really came into their own in the third quarter, using some great passes to work the ball down well and ultimately produced a very strong quarter performance.

This prompted Sandsfoot to make some positional changes going into the final quarter. While Zest’s defensive effort remained high, these changes worked for Sandsfoot and they came away with their first win of the season.

WJNC WILDCATS 37

PORTLAND PIRATES 52

Elsewhere in Division Two, Portland Pirates claimed a 52-37 win over WJNC Wildcats.

Portland began with WA Jane Bayley feeding well into the shooting circle. There was some great contesting by Wildcats in the mid-court but they were unable to capitalise on this and Portland took the lead in the first quarter.

Pirates played with confidence in the second quarter, spearheaded by some superb shooting from their GS Candice Barton and they continued to pull ahead, however Wildcats’ work rate remained high, particularly Kaci Jacks and Laura Matthews in defence.

Wildcats’ hard defensive work began to pay off in the second half, as their attacking movement improved in the final quarter.

GS Maisie Herbert demonstrated lovely, creative attacking play, meaning Wildcats won the final quarter 12-9. Portland, however, had built up too much of a lead from their earlier efforts and won by 15 points.
