A WEYMOUTH campsite has been crowned the winner of a popular TV show which has been exploring the best holiday spots the Jurassic Coast has to offer throughout the past week.

Channel 4's, The Perfect Pitch, saw three duos, or families, of camping enthusiasts explore different areas of the country - with the theme for this past week's episodes being the Jurassic Coast.

The show started on Monday, October 11, in neighbouring Devon before the guests made their way across county lines into Dorset.

The campsites being judged throughout the week were Exmouth County Lodge, Oakdown Caravan Park, Higher Moor Farm, Longthorns Farm and Redlands Coppice, with the winners awarded at the end of the week on Friday.

Yesterday it was announced on the show that Weymouth's own campsite, Higher Moor Farm, was crowned The Perfect Pitch's best campsite on the Jurassic Coast.

The episode which showed the campers pitching up at Higher Moor Farm, which catered for Olympic sailing crowds in 2012, was aired on Wednesday.

Higher Moor Farm is an award winning, family orientated campsite located in the village of Nottington. It caters for tents, caravans and motorhomes as well as offering boutique camping pods and lodges.

Wednesday's episode also saw campers take part in a Dorset pasty bake-off and a traditional hoe-down, then off to Weymouth Harbour for a taste of Olympic sailing before returning to camp for a highly competitive Dorset Games.

The show, hosted by Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page, said its aim is to compile the ultimate guide to the very best campsites in Britain and help people plan their future staycations.

Touring the county on this week's episodes were vintage caravanners Steph and Cam, the Webber family from Wolverhampton, and couple, Nik and Harriet, who travel in an RV.

Daniel Smy, manager of Higher Moor Farm, said: “I am so proud that we won Jurassic Perfect Pitch and our plaque has taken pride of place on the entrance to our reception.

"The whole family and team are buzzing with joy at the news of being crowned The Perfect Pitch and we are particularly pleased to showcase Weymouth on national TV promoting the area as a great place for camping holiday.

"The knock on effect of promoting this most lovely part of Dorset will promote tourism which is a key part of the towns economy.

"We had so much fun with Steph, Cam, Nik, Harriet, the Webber family and all the lovely film crew at the campsite and do hope we will see them all again sometime soon. We all feel so blessed to have this experience of filming at the campsite, we all had such a blast.”
