POOLE BOROUGH 0

DORCHESTER Sports blew Poole Borough away 7-0 to return to winning ways in the Jewson Dorset Premier League.

Sports’ emphatic victory also preserved their perfect home record at the Avenue Stadium, having now won all four contests.

Borough started brightly, posing Sports questions in the opening half an hour until Ed Bastick set the ball rolling for the hosts.

The former Dorchester and Portland winger punished a wayward backpass by finishing expertly past the visiting keeper.

Charlie Gosney added a second minutes later, tapping home from Alex Godfrey’s square pass.

Borough were limited to long-range efforts before half-time and Sports duly notched a third when Darren Watts pinged a 35-yard free-kick through a forest of legs to score.

Sports dominated possession in the second half but Poole did remain a threat on the counter, home goalkeeper Nick Hutchings making an important save to keep the score at 3-0.

Bastick claimed his second and Sports’ fourth midway through the half to kill the game, finishing Jack Steele’s searching cross into the box.

With 85 minutes gone, Sports were still only 4-0 up but Jamie Samways got the first of a late flurry of goals, guiding a cross from sub Nick Voss into the bottom corner.

Voss claimed another assist when he supplied Godfrey for the sixth, enabling the striker to finish clinically.

As Poole came forward in search of a consolation, they were unhinged on the counter-attack, Godfrey providing for Brandon Heal to score a magnificent seventh.

Sports’ assistant boss Dave Court told Echosport: “It was a good performance, we knew we had to match Poole Borough’s work rate and we did that.

“The first half an hour was very even, they attacked quite well but we defended well.

“Then we got two goals in two minutes and we really started playing.

“We got a third just before half-time so we scored at really good times.

“We were able to maintain the performance for 90 minutes, which was really pleasing.”

The result was the perfect antidote to a 6-0 drubbing by leaders Ham Rec last time out.

“We tried not to get too low after losing last week,” Court said. “By the same token, we’re not going to get carried away by winning this week.

“We’ve got a really sensible group of lads and they knew they had to put on a performance. We’re just keen for everybody to enjoy their football.”
