Emergency services are at the scene of a major ongoing incident at Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth.
Negotiators are working to bring a man down to safety from the roof of a building.
Dorset Police said received a report at 3.16pm raising concern for the welfare of a man.
The incident has been ongoing since this afternoon, and Abbotsbury Road remains closed to traffic.
"Officers have attended, along with the fire service," a police spokesman said.
"Road closures have been put in place as the emergency services respond to the incident and efforts are made to engage with the man and take him to safety."
Two police negotiators are currently working with police officers and fire crews to help the situation.
Traffic is no longer queuing but cars of people who live in the cordoned zone are still being diverted, according to our reporter on the scene.
Drivers are being diverted to Cromwell Road coming from the direction of west Abbotsbury Road, and a cordon remains in place.
