A COMMUNITY group is hosting a litter pick in Littlemoor - with a long-term aim to change the mindset of litterbugs after the area has been gripped by a rat infestation.

Littlemoor Safety Forum (LSF) is rallying the community to come together to clean up litter-strewn areas in the suburb of Weymouth, caused by those who carelessly drop litter in public places.

Tony A'Lee, LSF co-ordinator, said the litter pick is a response to the rising rat sightings across the area, which lead to a community meeting being held on October 6.

Mr A'Lee said: "The litter pick is in one respect a response to the rat infestation.

"The litter pick starts to get the area clear of rubbish, and change the mindset of some residents.

"We want to have a community they are proud of, and we want them to be proud to say 'they come from Littlemoor'.

"We want to make this a family community event to encourage youngsters to have pride in the community where they live."

The community litter pick starts around 11am at the Littlemoor Community Centre, just off Canberra Road.

The event will take place on Monday (October 25) and is expected to finish around 12.30pm and there will be a free soup and roll lunch for all participants.
