HAMWORTHY UNITED RES 4

BALTI Sports’ poor Jewson Dorset Premier League season continued with a 4-2 defeat to Hamworthy United Reserves at Weymouth College.

Balti lie a distant 13th compared to the early promise of a semi-final appearance shown in the DPL Supplementary Cup in Spring.

Marco Nott’s men have taken just three wins in 10 games and have lost at home four times already.

Their latest defeat began with the Hammers opening a 1-0 lead, Jack Orchard finishing off Jack McCrow’s square pass.

Ethan Devaney responded with a quality equaliser, lashing home a half volley into the top corner.

Balti were desperately close to taking a lead into half-time, only for the woodwork to intervene.

An individual error cost Balti soon after the resumption when Eric Mukambi was brought down in the box.

That allowed Luke Pidgeley to step up and restore the Hammers’ lead.

Balti’s resilience was in full display when Sean Zima unleashed a long-range sizzler into the bottom corner, levelling at 2-2.

Balti were then sucker punched on the break in bizarre circumstances.

Hamworthy conceded an indirect free-kick after a defensive mix-up and after blocking Balti’s eight-yard attempt the Hammers sprung upfield.

It took just two passes to put Alfie Matthews one-on-one and the Hammers’ man finished with aplomb on 80 minutes.

Hesitant defending in Balti’s box then put the result beyond doubt as Orchard pounced on a loose ball for his brace, sealing Hamworthy’s second straight victory.

Balti Sports travel to Merley Cobham Sports on Saturday (3pm).
