DORSET rider Brad Jones spoke of his emotional response to support from the motorcycling community following his horrific crash in July.

Jones, 23, crashed at Brands Hatch almost 12 weeks ago in the seventh round of his debut season in British Superbikes.

On a partially wet surface, his iForce Jones & Lloyd BMW threw him onto the track and into a barrier at high speed on the exit of Clark Curve.

The Stalbridge star suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries and was unconscious at the scene.

He was airlifted to King’s College Hospital, London, where he needed surgery for a pelvic fracture.

Jones also sustained a bleed on the brain, two punctured lungs and broken ribs.

Speaking trackside at the season-closing race at Brands Hatch, Jones gave an update on his fightback from injury.

He told Eurosport: “It’s good to be back. I’m recovering well, body-wise I’m pretty good. All the bones have healed.

“The brain injury needs a lot of work but that was questionable before!

“On the whole I’m making a good recovery, lots of rehab so I’m pretty snowed under every week with appointments here and there all the time.

“It’s going the right way now, which I’m happy about.

“It was quite emotional. I remember being in hospital when I had half an idea what I was doing.

“I just laid there, looking at the support and crying. I had to stop looking at it after a day or two.”
