FOLLOWING a weekend off from league rugby, Dorchester return after a scheduled break to play near neighbours Wimborne in tomorrow’s Tribute Southern Counties South clash (3pm).

Travelling to Leigh Park with a bolstered squad, coach Josh Ovey is looking forward to the encounter.

Ovey includes new signings Hywell Davies and James Cooper in his squad in the back row and at full-back respectively, with both Ovey himself and Adam Makepeace continuing their comebacks from injury in the starting line-up.

James McKendry steps up to fly-half with young standout player Freddie Charles continuing at scrum-half.

With former Dorchester Colt Brook Legg pushing for game time in the first-team squad, Ovey is delighted with the progress the club is making in developing its own youth section.

Andy Dowell returns to action and the front row is bolstered by both Joe Prior and Chris Elliott starting together for the first time this season. The strength of the pack should continue the county town’s dominance at the scrum.

With new players making the squad, this shows that Dorchester Rugby Club is heading in a very positive direction and this week resulted in a very hotly-contested selection meeting, giving head coach Ovey and club captain Tony O’Connell some great headaches to have with numbers and quality of depth in the senior squad.

Dorchester lie ninth in the league table with one win whilst opponents Wimborne sit fifth with two wins thus far.

Dorchester’s A XV welcome East Dorset Dockers to Surcouf Park in their Tribute Dorset & Wilts Two South fixture (3pm).

Charlie Davis makes his indefinite last appearance for the county town club before he heads off to join the Royal Navy, whilst prop Tom Lovell returns to the game after a break to train for a charity boxing match.

A win will move Dorchester above East Dorset Dockers to third in the table and potentially even second place, overtaking Ellingham & Ringwood before the two sides clash next time out at the Hampshire outfits Parsonage Barn Lane ground.

Sunday will see Dorchester’s under-14s lock horns with near neighbours Swanage & Wareham, whilst the Ridgeway Roses take on Oakmeadians at Weymouth & Portland’s Monmouth Road (2.30pm).

Elsewhere in Dorset, leaders Weymouth & Portland visit Salisbury Seconds in Tribute Dorset & Wilts One South, while winless Bridport visit leaders Bournemouth Thirds.
