WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock admitted tiredness played a part in the Terras’ 1-1 draw with Wealdstone in the Vanarama National League at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Stock watched on as a Weymouth side – visibly jaded by the 210-minue FA Cup marathon loss to Yeovil – took the lead in the 40th minute through Ben Thomson’s first goal of the season.

However, Wealdstone dominated the first portion of the second half, equalising through debutant Connor McAvoy.

Weymouth pushed for a winner late on but had to settle for a draw – and did move up two places to 19th with other results falling their way.

Stock told Echosport: “I thought the lads, again, gave everything. They got their noses in front, came out second half and looked tired.

“Probably the aftermath of two really tough derby games against Yeovil. You could see that quite clearly in the second half.

“It was in the back of my mind when it came to team selection. We even put up on the board how many minutes everyone played on the Tuesday.

“With Wealdstone having a free week, you could tell there was freshness in them and tiredness in us.

“The pleasing thing is that we haven’t lost the game, that’s the most important thing.

“When you look at the results, everyone around us has lost points and we’re out of the relegation zone. We can’t underestimate how important a point is.”

Weymouth’s third 1-1 draw in a week meant the Terras have now gone 10 winless games in all competitions.

Stock, though, was steadfast when that statistic was put to him.

He said: “In the last three games within a week we’re unbeaten, so you can flip it that way.

“We’ve lost once against Stockport, conceding in the 88th minute. The previous defeat was the first game of the season where we weren’t at the races and we openly admit that.

“When you look at the form it’s nothing to worry about. In an ideal world you want to beat Wealdstone at home but it’s not as easy as that.

“You go into two games now, Aldershot away and King’s Lynn, where we need to pick up points, there’s no doubt about it.

“It just goes to show how important a point is considering what it’s done to us in the table.”

Asked if he had regrets about not claiming a win against a struggling Wealdstone, Stock said: “Yeah, we had one or two opportunities in the first half.

“Last 20 minutes I felt we had the ascendancy and they’re a different animal this year. Most teams have improved their squads.

“There’s no easy game and Wealdstone proved that.”
