ROAD users potentially endangering pedestrians have been blasted after reports of some motorists blatantly ignoring safety road signs.

Dorset Police said the emergency service has received reports of motorists driving from Damers Road, in Dorchester, and ignoring the no left turn at the Great Western crossroads.

Police said they will ramp up efforts to monitor the section of road to catch those ignoring the no-turn road sign, which directs motorists and road users away from Great Western Road.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "We have recently received reports of drivers ignoring the no left turn sign at the junction between Great Western Road and Damers Road, in Dorchester.

"This is potentially dangerous especially for pedestrians at the crossing on Cornwall Road.

"Vehicles seen contravening the no left turn sign may be liable to a £50 fine.

"Due to ongoing concerns in the area, local officers will be paying more regular attention to the junction and will deal with offenders as appropriate."
