FLOWERS have been planted as the restoration of a school trail in memory of a little boy who died of cancer moves closer to completion.

The Branden's Trail Project was set up in memory of Branden Wayland who was diagnosed with cancer when he was three-years-old and sadly died two years later.

Next to the classroom where he was taught at Bridport Primary School, is an area with a sign proclaiming ‘Branden’s Trail’.

Members of Bridport Gardening Club have begun to plant the first batch of sensory plants and flowers for Branden's Trail at Bridport Primary School - all plants have been donated by supporters of the project.

Wooden planters, which include inbuilt seating, have been created and installed by town surveyor Daryl Chambers and his team as a result of Branden's Trail being Bridport Town Council's 'community project of the year'.

After missing the initial targeted finish date of the October half-term, the team have now got their sights set on the trail being completed by Christmas.

The team say that delays to the project and difficulties caused by the pandemic have not dampened the enthusiasm to complete this project, which will transform Branden's memorial into a legacy of support for other children facing difficulties.

One of the project's partners, Bridport Arts Centre, is appealing for support in order to be able to realise their own commitment. Youth Engagement Officer, Bryony Moores O’Sullivan, has been working with the children together with local artists, Theadora Brazier and Imi Naylan, on producing the Branden’s Trail Mural.

She said: “What we need is exterior wood primer (preferably white), vibrant wall paint colours, acrylic paint, and MSA varnish or similar. We would really appreciate some help with this.”

If you happen to have anything that you can donate to this worthwhile project, then please either take it to the town council offices at Mountfield, c/o Daryl Chambers, or contact a.c.woodgate@btinternet.com or 01308 423767 for collection.
