PORTLAND United’s Franklyn Clarke and Sam Poole will be reunited with Blackfield and Langley in their Wessex League Premier Division clash tomorrow (3pm).

Clarke and Poole were part of current Dorchester boss Glenn Howes’ side as the Watersiders racked up 100 points in their Wessex Premier title-winning season of 2017/18.

Now the duo have switched to management themselves and are on a three-game unbeaten run ahead of hosting Blackfield at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.

But Clarke would not be drawn on whether he felt more rested on the fixture than normal.

He told Echosport: “I’m looking forward to it, they’re a good side. It will be a similar test to Bashley.

“We do the same, we look to play. Obviously it’s nice to play an old club.

“Myself and Sam won the Wessex League there. We’ve great memories there. To win any league takes a lot of dedication and hard work.

“That season at Blackfield we achieved 100 points, so it was a great time and I’ll always remember it.

“But I’m manager of Portland now so our focus is to make sure we try our best to get three points and put in a good performance at home.”

Portland have conceded consecutive 95th-minute equalisers in their past two outings and Clarke urged his side to learn from the pain.

He added: “This season, for us, is about going through all these lessons and the young lads gaining the experience of conceding a last-minute goal against Cowes and Poppies.

“And, understanding what that feels to sit on that for a week. The whole season’s going to be about lessons and preparing for next season.

“Ideally, we learn fast but there’s no pressure from me to start correcting things straight away.”

Portland skipper Ryan McKechnie (knee) is expected to be out for several weeks but the Blues otherwise have a fully-fit squad to choose from.
