A charity in the running for a share of £20k in our Cash for Charities giveaway is getting in the festive mood.

Santa suit-clad runners will be taking part in the Chase the Pudding event on Weymouth beach on December 19 to raise money for Weymouth charity the Will Mackaness Trust.

The water sports opportunities charity is the Dorset Echo's nominee for our parent company’s charitable arm The Gannett Foundation's £125k cash giveaway. We are delighted to have a £20k share to give away in our area.

The Will Mackaness Trust, set up in memory of former Wey Valley School headboy Will Mackaness, hopes to raise as much as possible from the zany pudding chasing event. The 5km fun run will see a host of 'Santas' running from the Pavilion end of Weymouth beach to the stones at Greenhill and back.

For the under 16s there is also Chase The Elf, a 2km option, from the Pavilion end of the beach to the Pier Bandstand and back.

The warm up is at 10.45am for an 11am start. It costs £20 if you need a Santa suit and £15 if you don't need a suit. You can enter at the website willmackanesstrust.org.uk/chase-the-pudding/

While the Will Mackaness Trust is limbering up for the festive race, it is counting upon your support to win as much as possible of the share of £20k made available in this area.

Throughout this month the Dorset Echo will be printing tokens and you can use as many of these as you can collect to register your vote for the Will Mackaness Trust by depositing them at local token collection points or posting them to us.

Also shortlisted in our region are: The Safe; The Bridge Youth Project; the South Wight Area Youth Partnership; Amelia's Rainbow; Communicare; Cornwall Accessible Activities Programme and Winchester GoLD.

During November readers are invited to collect tokens from our newspapers which can then be sent to collection points across our region or posted.

Each token collected will then be used to allocate cash to the nominated charity.
