A BAR in Weymouth town centre has confirmed it will be giving out drink protectors to keep customers safe from drink spiking.

Slug & Lettuce, in St Thomas Street, has confirmed it will be introducing new foil covers for glasses to prevent spiking of drinks as well as other measures.

Nationally, police have been asked to urgently assess the scale of drink spiking at nightclubs and parties amid a rise in reports and claims some people have been drugged by injection.

Home Secretary Priti Patel asked forces for an update after some said they had seen more spiking incidents in recent months.

When asked whether the bar will be introducing the drink-protecting measure, a member of staff said 'yes, we will be brining them in soon'.

It comes after Dorset Police released figures showing drink spiking across the county have almost doubled, jumping from a total of 18 during 2016 - 2017, to 31 reports between 2020 - 2021.
