A WOMAN who was arrested following a fatal crash involving a cyclist has been released under investigation.

Dorset Police responded to a collision involving a cyclist and a black Ford Focus on the A354 Portland Beach Road at 6.53am on Monday, November 15.

It is understood by police officers that he was in collision with another cyclist before being involved in the crash with the Ford Focus.

The cyclist – a local man aged in his 30s – sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

The driver of the Ford, a woman aged in her 40s from Portland, was arrested on suspicion of a driving offence and assisted officers with their investigations.

A force spokesman has since confirmed the woman has been released under investigation as enquires into the crash continue.

He said: "We can confirm that the woman who was arrested has been released under investigation. There are no further updates and our investigation into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing."

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who sadly died.

“We understand the cyclist was involved in a collision with another cyclist shortly before this incident and would urge anyone who witnessed either collision to please come forward.

“I am also appealing to any motorists who were travelling in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place. This is absolutely necessary to allow us to carry out a thorough scene examination.”
