A MAN has been jailed for up more than eight years for his repeated sexual abuse of a young girl and possession of more than 45,000 indecent images.

Christopher Robinson, 70 and from Blandford, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday, November 15, after being found guilty at an earlier trial of sexual assault of a child under 13, possessing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images.

He received a prison sentence of eight years and nine months.

Robinson was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, as well as being made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Ade Stocker, of Dorset Police's child abuse investigation team, said: “I want to praise the young victim in this case for the courage she has shown and with the support of her family they have helped secure the conviction and imprisonment of Christopher Robinson for his repeated abuse.

“I hope this case demonstrates our commitment to supporting victims of child abuse and securing justice for them and this will encourage others to come forward and report offences.”

On October 14, 2020, Robinson’s victim was overheard telling a friend that the defendant had touched her inappropriately.

Further enquiries were conducted and the young victim disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted by Robinson on a number of occasions since 2017.

Officers went to arrest Robinson the following day and his electronic devices were seized for examination.

Analysis of his computer revealed a number of indecent images of children. Indecent images are categorised between A and C, with A being the most serious.

Officers found 16 category B images and more than 45,000 category C images. They also found 34 videos featuring extreme pornographic material.

Child abuse can be reported online and over the phone.
