PORTLAND United have moved to secure a double signing ahead of their home clash with Hamble Club on Saturday (3pm).

Manager Franklyn Clarke has swooped for striker Liam Sayers and goalkeeper Brad Smith.

Sayers is a former Portsmouth and Dorchester Town striker who enjoyed a spell with Bridport last season.

Meanwhile, stopper Smith has experience with Dorchester Town Under-23s.

The duo could make their debuts against Hamble on Saturday.

Commenting on Sayers, who scored a hat-trick as Portland United Reserves beat Hamworthy United Reserves on Saturday, Clarke described the forward as a “great addition”.

He told the Blues’ media team: “Liam is a player I played with while at Dorchester several years ago.

"He is an attacking versatile player. He is direct, strong and scores goals – as he proved playing for our reserves last Saturday.

“A great addition to our squad.”

On Smith, Clarke added: “Brad is a keeper I have worked with before. He will come in and work with Mike (Edgar) which will hopefully push them both to continue to improve and get the best out of each other.

“Brad trained (Tuesday) night and fitted in with the squad really well. Another good addition added to our group.”

Portland have already found sponsorship for the duo, according to the Blues’ social media.

On Twitter, the islanders said: “Thank you to Advoco Accountants from Weymouth for coming forward to sponsor @Bradleyj999 and Liam and also for sponsoring @evoevans10”
