WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock stressed the importance of bouncing back from two heavy defeats when the Terras host Woking in the Vanarama National League tonight (7.45pm).

The Terras went down to 10 men midway through respective 4-0 and 4-1 losses to Chesterfield and Altrincham.

While the reverses came following a five-game unbeaten streak, including the FA Cup draws after 90 minutes against Yeovil, Weymouth are now looking to freeze a mini-run of losses.

They face a Woking side who are six points and six places above them in 12th.

Asked if avoiding a poor sequence of results – similar to this time last season – was on his mind, Stock told Echosport: “Yeah, that was my message – the process doesn’t change.

“We’ll go again, I do not want any negativity amongst the squad. If they had anything to say, we say it in the changing room and it stays in the changing room.

“We’ve got to stay strong. We’ve not been done by 11 versus 11, by a team that’s better than us.

“For me, we’ve gifted them the game by going down to 10 men. It’s important we bounce back.

“We’re going to lose games this year, it’s important we don’t make it three, four, five defeats.

“People looked at the Wealdstone result as a draw and turned their noses up as if to say it’s a poor result.

“But give them credit, they’ve gone away to Wrexham and got a point.

“There’s no easy game and we stopped a run of five defeats by drawing against Wealdstone and it set us up for two victories after that. We’ll be looking to do the same.”

Weymouth are five points better off after 16 games of the 2021/22 season than they were 12 months ago.

“We’ve not just become a bad side,” Stock said. “We are a good, honest, hard-working side that play football, for me, the right way.

“We’ve come off the back of two very heavy defeats with 10 men. From the outside looking in, if nobody knew we had 10 men for those games they’d probably think we’re struggling.

“We’re not. We’re in a good position and we’ll go again.

“When it comes to Tuesday games we need to make sure we freshen it up. We’re going to miss Tom Bearwish out of the squad but we’ve got a couple of replacements to come in.”

Ollie Harfield returns following his red card at Chesterfield but Bearwish begins his own one-match suspension after his dismissal against Altrincham.

Josh Leslie-Smith is expected to return to right-back, Ben Thomson (knee) is out for two weeks and Xander McBurnie is in contention.
